Sorrento, Naples, Capri, Pompeii

I am arriving via cruise ship to Sorrento. We dock at 8 am and depart at 11:30 pm. I would like to go to Naples for a short time (to visit pizzeria da Michele AKA "the best pizza in the world"), to Capri, Pompeii if time permits then back to Sorrento. My thought is that this might be too much in 16 hours or can I make it all via hydrofoil? I am thinking it is best to start out the furthest away then work my way back to sorrento then dinner in sorrento? Any thoughts on the best way to do this? If I was to cut one out, which would it be...capri or pompeii?

It sounds very ambitious. Do you really dock in Sorrento, or tender in? If tender, it could be sometime after 8 AM that you actually step foot on land, and you likely must be on board before 11:30...you may not have quite as much time as it seems. I do not know about the hydrofoils but would suggest you do see Pompeii as it is absolutley amazing and unique. I remember the Sorrento ferry port was a mob scene when we were there. Pompeii is very easily accessed by train from Sorrento. I would cut out Capri, but it has never held appeal for me. I imagine you will stop in several other lovely seaside towns (eg Sorrento) but there is only one Pompeii. For my money, a pizza would have to be pretty special to get me to Naples, but again, that is my opinion. I would certainly take the shipward home route if I did try to do it all, and start with your farthest destination in the early part of the day. Good luck!

The ferry harbour at Sorrento is way too small to take cruise ships. They anchor offshore and passengers use tenders to get ashore. Google map Marina Piccolo and you can see for yourself.

That is a tough one. While I really loved Capri and was not all that excited to see Pompeii myself, I would have to recommend Pompeii. Capri is beautiful, but so is Sorrento and you are already going to be there. If you are already planning on heading to Naples, you are going to pass right by Pompeii and you might was well stop and spend a couple of hours there. It seems like Capri might be out of the way a little for you. I would do Naples, Pompeii and then spend the rest of your time wandering in Sorrento and relaxing at a cafe!
