Some Delta news

From the website One mile at a time

Last year we saw Delta axe its New York to Munich (MUC) route. Then we’ve just seen Delta cut its New York to Brussels route. Now we’re seeing the airline cut its New York to Geneva route. One would certainly assume that the days for the New York to Frankfurt (FRA) route are numbered as well

But they are adding two new routes from Boston. One to Nice and another Madrid. Maybe they're just re-evaluating and shuffling things around.

Are these permanent year round cuts? Or simply the reductions in international flight destinations that all airlines do in the fall/winter? And then they resume those flights in late spring and for the summer?

Next time provide the link, thanks.

No surprise, Delta, and every airline, constantly evaluates routes, they cut some, they add some. Recently they announced a non-stop JFK to Porto, they are also adding potentially Sardinia and Malta as direct routes. Much is driven by volumes and where the hot spots are at the moment.

I believe that Delta is adding some from Austin but can not keep up with the news right now.

Other airlines are canceling flights from Austin

Sadly, one major airline was adding a non stop Austin to Vancouver, Canada but then had to cancel plans because there was not enough interest Vancouver to Austin due to some current situations. I am so sad because we do not have enough non stops from Austin.

But our airport is enlarging and we may be getting some additional non stops soon?? including international.

I fly Delta frequently. Prices for flying to European destinations through JFK are often substantially less expensive than flights through Atlanta (or Amsterdam/Paris). I assume this is due to the amount of competition at JFK. I'll be on the JFK-Prague seasonal flight in about 10 days and on the JFK-Brussels flight in December. For the JFK-Brussels flight (reservation made about a month ago), there was much availability for reward tickets at far lower mileage requirements than usual; there was no availability of reward tickets on Atlanta-Brussels flights.

One would certainly assume that the days for the New York to Frankfurt
(FRA) route are numbered as well

I strongly doubt that the days are numbered for that flight. Year-round service. Center of US finance to center of German finance (plus the location of the EU Central Bank).

@bostonphil...

Both Southwest and Delta have announced plans for significant expansion at Austin, particularly once the new Concourse B is finished somewhere around 2030.

Sad to see Delta pull out of both Geneva and Munich from JFK, but they have codeshare redundancy aplenty for these routes via Air France and KLM, albeit both have connections. It is irksome to lose that nonstop convenience, for sure.

I can see Delta leaning more on their nonstops not only from Atlanta and Detroit, but also Salt Lake City. That last location likely has good slot availability for European destinations given how few have ever been tried.

Thank you Dave

I am excited about the news but given my age and health, there is a chance that I will not be able to travel by 2030.

Still Onward Thru The Fog as we say in Austin

I find the Austin growth very exciting. Some long time Austinites do not.
