Heathrow closed, no buses running, many trains and tube lines shut down...all for a little snow.
Okay..so they're calling it the worst blizzard in 18 years....but still......

The Nelson Mandela statue London:
I was not aware that Heathrow closed down. I knew London City and Leeds Bradford closed down.
In the North we had about 2-3 inches of Snow and it's about 30F. There are periods where it is a blizzard wrapped around periods of brilliant sunshine.
With that said roads are a mess because of poor gritting and people were showing up hours late to work because of transportation nightmares. My train actually was on time for once today. Go figure.
For anyone who lives in the northern usa you would have a very good chuckle right now :)
Trouble is, the UK is not really equipped for snow- and why would it be, when it's quite a rare occasion? So there are not many gritting vehicles available for the roads.
And UK drivers are not used to driving on icey roads. Or how to cope with snow- for instance, on almost every car I saw this morning, no-one had thought to clean the snow off the lights.
On the plus side (I think!), they are playing Christmas music on the radio!
Michael...I like the picture you placed above. Nelson Mandella was always ready to fight for what he believed in...I just never knew they were snowball fights!!!! :)
That's one interpretation of the photo....the first thing that came to my mind (and it's what I love about the British)is the brits are always up for a laugh...no matter what:)
I thought it looked like he was about to start juggling.
Well, the old helpline gotten livelier since Kent taught Michael how to put in pictures! :) (Smiley face is still the extent of my pictures)
My cousin in London was so excited that she had a snow day today. Planned to spend it in the pub.
I saw several reports on the news today about the "worst snowfall in 18 years". It looked like major gridlock in London, however they didn't have much coverage from other parts of the U.K. They also showed one hardy individual skiing to work, and of course the children enjoying some "sledding" down small hills using everything from Backpacks to aluminum cooking pots to sit on.
It didn't seem to be a lot of snow compared to what we've had here this winter, but I suppose as they're not used to that sort of thing they wouldn't be as equipped to handle it (snow tires, etc.).
