Sncf train : Carte Avantage Senior TGV INOUI (60+ years old)

Hi friends,

Worth buying ? My wife and I, age 60, want to take train , from Basel Switzerland, to Paris France. We visit Paris for 4 nights , then return home from Charles de Gaulle to California.

We will do a day trip to Giverny (Monets Garden). May be Chartes, France (church).

Will take taxi for balance of transportation.

Is buying the sncf discount with it, for this trip? Their website says “discount ticket pays for itself upon the 1st return trip. I feel we have no return trip, just a few 1 way trips.

Merci,

We will be in France soon and bought the Carte Advantage Senior. We will be taking the train from Basel to Paris as well as Paris to Bordeaux. We will be in Paris for a month and will be taking multiple day trips from there. In your situation it might not be worth it. The train ticket to Vernon to get to Giverny by shuttle bus is not expensive, even if you buy the ticket that day. The train ticket to Chartres appears to be inexpensive as well. You might want to do dummy bookings for your possible trains and see if you will save any money. The discount won’t apply getting you to CDG. You take the RER B, unless you choose to take a taxi

You would have to pay €100 to get the cards for both of you. I don't think you would receive enough money back on discounts to make it worth it.

Most things I read say you have to make three trips to get the cost of the card back in discounts. And little local trips to Giverny and Chartres are going to be minuscule.
