Hoping someone here knows, last week our TGV train from Toulon to Gare de Lyon in Paris was over 30 minutes late and we were handed envelops as we arrived in Paris for an SNCF refund. I should have mailed this while still in France but it was our last full day there and didn't really read the envelop until just today at home. Question is, is it worthwhile for me to send this in? We are planning on returning to France in 2013 (if that matters). Thank you in advance.
Why wouldn't it be worthwhile for you to send it in? If you don't send it you will absolutely get nothing back, but if you do send it your odds are up to 50/50. Does it say anything that makes it time sensitive or can only be redeemed in France?
Good point Barry, the only timeline is that we have to have the envelops back within 45 days of the trip, might as well give it a shot. If I can't use the refund I have friends in France who could use it if transferable.
I'm not sure if this covers your questions, but last summer a travel companion had to buy a new ticket and apply for a refund with SNCF. We really questioned whether the refund would show up on her credit card, since we'd be back in the States by then but it did and almost exactly to the day promised. So, go for it and know that if they'll refund your credit card, they really will do that.
