so I just discovered smart fares and if you did not know which I did not.. they are the equivalent to the mini fares in Italy except you cannot change them it seems at all but the savings was so great it was worth it. I saved 300 dollars so I think it was worth the risk in the long run.. we don't plan on changing our plans but unexpected things do happen but decided to risk it anyway,
how do you go about finding the smart fares?
I think the Smart Fare she is talking about is on Trenitalia for tickets that cross the Swiss border, like Milan to Bern or Milan to Zurich. Trenitalia doesn't have mini fares for the international trains but they do have Smart fares, starting at 19 euros.
Sasha is correct... it was a great deal...
