Slightly over Germanwings 8kg carry-on limit

I am about to fly Berlin to Heathrow on Germanwings with only a small pack I fear will go over 8 kg when I abandon my laptop bag here to fit it all in one. The only weighty items I have are laptop w/charger, new pair Reeboks, liquids bag, umbrella. I have printed my boarding pass which says nothing about stopping by counter with dreaded scales. I plan to go directly to gate.

If there is any worry that I could have it weighed I can put the liquids, laptop charger and umbrella in cargo pockets until this chance passes. When would I need to do this and how to avoid being caught out without chance to adjust?

Thanks! Never had any more than this small pack traveling almost every carrier in the world but never felt so restricted til now with my small bag, which weighed 10kg on the Air Berlin scales at LAX last month without the laptop but with another pair of shoes.

I don't know whether they will weigh bags, but after you have passed through airport security, it would be fine to move some items to your pockets, switch shoes, etc.

Stuff the heavy high density things in your jacket pockets. Carry your pack using only one strap and look like it is effortless. And be prepared for their worst.

There was an agent at the Tegel ticket counter watching people walking by it to security with their own pre-printed boarding passes. I waited til he turned away and hurried past to the security line. From there I saw no scales or sizing device and several in line (maybe with different class tickets?) had two bags. So I got onboard and had a nice flight with my bulging pack.

Now I'm concerned about having to have my passport stamped at Luton for Ryan Air flight Monday to Dublin. They have a 10kg limit but as I recall they mainly are concerned about fitting in the sizing device at gate. Does anyone know if they weigh at ticket counter, and if so when would I have the chance to offload heavier items into cargo pockets or the second personal bag they allow. Or would you do this ahead of time byl carry a small string backpack or shopping bag?

In my experience you can have the bag weighed and if it doesn't pass (some agents give a little wiggle room), you can leave the counter to repack, then get it weighed again. I have gone back to the same agent without going through the line again. I've also put items in the pockets of my jacket - it has eight - and worn or carried the jacket until I have to put it on the screening convetor belt.

Main thing os you can repack of necessary.

Also got luck on the Luton-DUB flight on Ryan as it was a separate airport service provider desk which stamped my Boarding Pass after checking passport. I then asked 3 airport workers on break if they thought I was under the weight limit. Each guessed over 10kg, but then one went over and put it on an empty check-in scales and said it was 9.8. So I fit it in the sizer at gate and felt "home free." Once onboard I took my stuffed pair of shoes and laptop charger I was carrying in shopping bag and fit them into the main pack.

This was no issue at all two days later on AC Rouge to Toronto and Boston. More luck when I gotta free $99 Economy Plus seat at check-in with loads of legroom. Good service, watched five first run movies on both flights including the amazingly roomy ERJ 190 connecting flight with seat back TV's.
