The RS book is not the best (complete or current) place to get rail schedule. Look either at Trenitalia or German Rail. The trip from Venice to Rome by daytime express train has become so quick few people go by night train anymore. I see one direct train, an ICN (Intercity Night), leaving Venice at 11:30 PM, getting into Rome Tiburtina at 6:56.

Amy, I wouldn't bother with a night train on that route, as it's a very fast trip via EuroStar Italia / Alta Velocita trains (3H:46M, €73 second class). If you travel during the night you'll miss some fantastic scenery, especially through Tuscany. You could (for example) leave Venice ~09:30 and be in Rome in time for a late lunch. Happy travels!

I took a morning train from Venice to Rome last month. I was in Rome at lunchtime.
