Sleeper trains in Europe

I'm planning a trip to Europe in Oct 08. My friend and I plan on purchasing a twin pass....Germany & Benlux 1st Class. One of our trips will be Amsterdam-Frankfurt, the the Sleeper train Frankfurt into Berlin. How much is the supplement to get a private sleeper for the two of us?? Do we need to get 2 single sleeper rooms or 1 double.

Did you know you can take an ICE train from Frankfurt to Berlin that takes a little less than 4 hours? The night train takes between 7-8 hours and leaves Frankfurt at 00:55. If this was to get a cheap room, I think you will save more money by getting to Berlin quickly and getting a room there. There are tons of apts. to rent for a day or two that cost less than a youth hostel. If you are getting cheap tickets from the Deutsche Bahn, get them quickly. The 29 € specials run out fast. There are Amsterdam - Frankfurt specials too. Look on the Deutsche Bahn website. Why the 1st class tickets? Is there a special price for those?

The twin pass is cheaper than the several point to point tickets. I enjoy sleeping on the train. It comes from the 7 years I spent on active duty with the USAF. We used to take the US Duty Train from West Berlin to Frankfurt all the time. Its just visiting a piece of nostalgia from my earlier times living in Europe. The sound of the rails beneath my slumbering head are so restful. Haven't you visited places you've been to in the past to see if/how its changed?? And 1st class is better and less crowded than 2nd class. Hope this answers your question...but I still want to know how much the supplement is.

I think you need to look at the Deutsche Bahn website yourself, cause of dates, times and so on. I hate to say it, but I had never heard of a twin pass. My husband and I have Bahn cards which we buy and are good for a year and let you pretty much travel for half price in Germany and now at about 25 % off in some other countries. It costs us around 300 € per year, (that's if the price did not go up too much this year). I think it is great you are going for the nostalgia thing. I see a lot of soldiers come back to look around. Where were you stationed? So many posts have closed down, it seems strange. I wish you a wonderful time!

Jo : We are getting the Benlux/Germany twin pass for $381 for 6 full days of travel in a 2 month period.

We are going from RMS airbase where we land to Bruxelles, Belgium, staying with friends, then on to Amsterdam (staying with friends) then to Frankfurt to catch the overnight train to Berlin again staying with friends. We will also use our pass for a few daytrips then back to Ramstein Air Base where we will fly back space a (US Military active duty & retired fly for free) to the USA where I live.
