Skipping a layover flight on KLM

I bought 2 round trip tickets from San Francisco to Barcelona this passed weekend on KLM's website, both flights have layovers.
Outbound flight: SF to Amsterdam to Barcelona.
Homebound flight: Barcelona to Paris to SF.

I booked the tickets thinking I can skip the flight from Barcelona to Paris, and take the flight directly from Paris to SF. It was stupid on my part to not make sure before purchasing. But KLM just confirmed that I cannot skip flights and must fly in sequence of the purchased flight.

If I want to change the flight, it's additional $250 per ticket. Is there a way around it??

No way around it; if you don't take the first flight they will cancel your flight to SF. $250 is a reasonable penalty...I would bite the bullet and be thankful you realized it before it's too late. Often it is a $250 penalty plus the difference in the new fare, which could wind up being several hundred dollars.

Our initial plan was to stay in Barcelona, visit Nice then Paris. If we go back to Barcelona, does anyone have a good route to visit different cities/countries in a 2 week period?

For future reference: I purchased Air France tickets from Seattle to Paris to Istanbul outbound on Air France. But, return, was Istanbul to Amsterdam to Seattle which turned out to be on KLM and involved a departure from Istanbul at about 5:30 AM. After realizing this I called AF and asked if there wasn't some way I could go home on Air France. They told me I could fly from Istanbul at about 3 PM to Paris and then overnight in Paris, then fly direct to Seattle the next morning.
I asked how much the change would cost me and they told me it was free. Probably because I would be then flying on AF and not on KLM. Thank you AF.
And, I get an evening in Paris!

New question:
On the way to Europe, if I get off at Amsterdam, and not take my flight from Amsterdam to Barcelona. Will the airline cancel my return flight (BCN-PAR-SFO)?
