size of lockers in Munich train station

We will be flying into Munich 8 A.M. and our week accomadations are in Schliersee (50 min. away) We would like to store our check-in sized bags into a locker so we can enjoy October Festival before check-in (4 P.M.) Thanks for info on the size of the lockers.

The train to Schliersee (BOB) breaks in Holzkirchen. It's the front third, I believe, that goes to Schliersee. Check the destination on the car, in the window by the door, when you board in Munich, or ask the conductor. Schliersee is nice (I was there for a day last August). Enjoy.

You will find two locker sizes in Munich in room just off the end of track 26. Here (http://www.germantravel-info.com/graphics/lockers.jpg) is an example of the locker sizes (in Füssen, but they are the same everywhere). I have no problem putting my non-wheeled, regulation size carryon in a small locker. I think when I was traveling with my wife her's fit with mine in a small locker, too. I'm sure two carryons will fit in a large locker. When the lockers are not in use, the door is unlocked and you can put your bags in to try it. Only when you want to lock the door do you need to put money in. BTW, if you purchase a €28 Bayern-Ticket from the automat at the airport S-Bahn station, it will cover your S-Bahn into town, plus the train to Schliersee. You could also use it for the U-Bahn (U4/5) from the south side of the Hbf on stop to Theresienwiese.

Thank you Lee. I appreciate your precise information. I actually went to your website the other day and read your posting for your August '09 trip to Germany. We plan to spend two days in Salzburg and explore much of Bavaria. Wish us luck!

All of the trains down there (in fact even the train from Munich Hbf to Holzkirchen-Bayrischzell-Teggernsee-Lenggries) are run by Bayerische-Oberlandbahn (BOB !). Their website is at www.bayerische-oberlandbahn.de. When I was there, I think, they had a Tageskarte for €10 (single) that included the network from the MVV down. Now the Tageskarte (€23 2-5P, €15 single) includes the Innenraum (inner zone) of the MVV. That wouldn't pay for the day you arrived because you'd still have to get in from the airport, but it, or p-p, will probably be your best deal while you are in Schliersee. There is also a "Wochenkarte" valid for a week.  It goes by Preisstufen (price levels) for the number of "zones". It looks like a network Wochenkarte is €71,30. ¶There are also extensive buses in the area run by Regionalverkehr Oberbayern (RVO). Their website (German only) is at www.rvo-bus.de. They have a day ticket for €9,- pP, but their p-p fares are pretty low.

Thanks again Lee. I will print out your detailed information regarding rail travel and prices. This is the part that is disconcerting,so thanks for the heads-up. I did see your picture of the lockers and am not sure they will house my luggage. I will try to obtain the measurements and will be glad to pass them along to you in case you want to add them to your website. I have put together a tentative iteniary and am wondering if you would look at it and comment on it? I realize you are not a travel agent and feel free to tell me to buzz off. I have thought of using Rick's $50 travel agent service for advice/validation. Thanks again. Off to learn another German word! Guten Tag.

Cynthia, if you're using carry-on sized luggage, they'll definitely fit into those lockers - even wheeled luggage. Notice how high they come up next to that man - they're at his upper thigh. And what you can't see immediately is how deep they are. If your luggage won't fit one way, just flip it the other way. I've put all kinds of soft- and hard-sided luggage into them (your standard 22"-24" roller bags). And 2 or 3 to a single locker, too.

I think I need to replace my Samsonite 28", weighing in at 14 pounds, luggage, albeit green and handsome. I bought a luggage scale and just weighed it. We'll be broke before we get there! I'll let you know if I get a response to my question I sent to the train station. I am curious to see if I get a response. Thanks.

The lockers in Munich are €5 for the large, €3 for the small. I don't think you can leave things in the lockers more than 24 hrs. _________________Also behind the locker rooms, across the N/S middle hall, there is a left-luggage room (Gepäckaufbewahrung). They charge by the piece (€5 per piece per day), not the size. It's really intended more for people who want to leave a bag for a week, not a few hours, but if you have one really big bag, that might be your best bet.

Cynthia, I totally understand about being broke before you get there! BUT, you'll be all set for the many, many trips you'll take in the future...;-)
