The Washington Post Travel Tips section posted an interesting story about how to renew your passport easily online. Here's the link. https://wapo.st/3MehsCg

I posted earlier on someone's thread that I quickly renewed online on Feb 2 and it arrived in the mail on Feb 16 under regular processing request.

Hmmm. I gifted the link. It should have opened. Anyone else have a problem with it?

The only caveat I would add is that if you are getting older as I am, it turns out that the website BOT that scans you can mistake normal facial lines around the eyes as "wearing glasses" and demands you take them off... which is hard to do when your not wearing any. Then you have to do it by mail the old fashioned way. Good luck. Don't procrastinate.

Also a caution not sure if the article explains but as soon as you hit submit online your current passport is invalid. So do it only when you are sure you don’t expect to travel during the time it takes to receive the new one. It’s the same as if you had mailed it in at same time. You wouldn’t have it so you couldnt use it.

I submitted my online renewal on February 11. I got an email this morning indicating that the new one is due in the mail on February 23. Twelve days! Good to know there is some portion of our government that is running efficiently!

I renewed mine online and it was a nightmare. So many problems. Mostly over the photo. I finally went to Walgreens, got new photos done, and send overnight mail ($35 extra) only for it to take three days to get there. So what should have been quick almost took as long as doing it the old fashioned way. Hopefully they improved their processes.

Thanks for sharing. For me, the problem will be finding someone to take my photo AND finding a white wall. I don't think our condo building has a single white wall. I know my own condo doesn't.

I don't have any white walls either, and most are covered with framed prints/art bought as travel souvenirs. I ironed a portion of a white sheet and draped it over a bathroom towel bar, smoothed it out so it would not look bunched up behind me. I sat on the small bench in that bathroom and my husband snapped a few pics of me. It worked nicely!

It was super fast for me. I submitted my renewal on Jun 2 and received it in the mail on June 12. It took only 10 days!
