Rick, We have recently purchased both of your books Italy/Florence & Tuscany, however, we are encountering problems obtaining Sitabus info. We want to travel from Rome to Siena. It has been suggested that we travel via Sitabus rather than use the trains. Any suggestions on how to obtain this information? We are currently very stressed by their (Sitabus) website. jk

Jeanne, As you noted, travel from Florence to Siena is usually easier by Bus, as you'll be dropped in Piazza Gramsci in the main part of town, rather than at the bottom of the hill where the rail station is located. This website may be of some use, although the information for the Buses is in Italian: www.sienaitaly.com/pages/arrival.html I'm not sure it's necessary to get the information in advance, as there are frequent departures on that route every day. I'd suggest taking the Corse Rapide (Express) Bus rather than Corse Ordinarie which is a bit slower as it makes stops along the way. When you arrive in Florence, ask the staff at your hotel to get the Bus departure times for you. The day before you'll be travelling, stop by the SITA Bus station (which is next to Firenze SMN rail station) and buy your tickets. Specify the date you'll be travelling and BE SURE to validate your tickets prior to boarding the Bus on the day of travel. Larger luggage items will be stored in the hold under the Bus, but you can keep carry-on size items with you in the coach. Happy travels!
You need Baltour. Go to the site below, choose English language. After you enter the information it will redirect you to the Baltour site where you enter the info again, but eventually you'll get there. Buses depart from Roma Tiburtina station. http://www.sena.it/Orari-Autobus/51-1.html
