Siena to Venice by bus

We want to get from Siena to Venice. We won't be driving so we would be traveling either by bus or by train. By train we would need to take the train back to Florence and then on to Venice. I believe there is a bus that goes from Siena to Venice. Has anyone on this forum taken that train from Siena to Venice? Any other advice on traveling to Venice from Siena?

There's a bus from Siena to Florence, but then you'd need to take the high speed( freccia) train from Florence to Venice.

Personally, I'd just take the train. You'll need to take a Regional train from Siena to Florence, then transfer to a freccia train to travel the rest of your journey to Venice. Total travel time = around 4 hours.

You may check train schedules on the Trenitalia website, but you'll need to choose from the train stations in Italian such as:

  • Florence = Firenze S.M. Novella
  • Venice = Venezia S. Lucia

You can google "Siena Venice Bus" and get a number of options, however none of them look to be direct, and many of the suggested routes require multiple changes and many, taking the train for a leg or two, and all of them go through Florence.

The most efficient route would be to take the frequent Bus from Siena town center to the Florence train station (Firenze Santa Maria Novella or SMN for short) then catch one of the frequent trains directly to Venice.

The bus in Siena picks up in the center city while the train is out on the edge of town.
The bus takes you to the Florence train station, and is the preferred way to get there.
