Two-pronged question: 1) Anyone anticipate booking tickets one week in advance will be a problem for a Good Friday trip to Rome? 2)What is your experience Bus vs Train to Rome?
Thanks, Peg
Clarification - is one week enough advance purchase b/z it is a holiday weekend...and to Rome none-the-less (vatican traffic etc.)
www.sena.it is a good choice to get to Tiburtina station in Rome from Siena. As Gio says, pay close attention to the holiday bus schedule.
Bus is by far the better option: an easy 3 hour ride, some of it scenic through Tuscany, too. Lets you off at Roma Tiburtina...easy train connections to anywhere in Roma. Two years ago I think we paid the equivalent of $30.00 US each for this bus ride. Now as to the reduced bus schedule for Good Friday, you'll have to checkout the SENA website for holiday schedules: http://www.sena.it/index_e.htm. I took a peek for you, and since Good Friday appears to fall on April 10, there are buses from Siena to Roma at these times: 6, 7:30, 9, 10:30, Noon, 2, 4, 5, 6 and 8 PM. All 3 hour rides. It's impossible to say for sure, but given this volume of runs, you probably could get your tickets a day or two in advance when it Italy.
