Well, maybe train operators aren’t as conciliatory as airlines, whether required or otherwise, but how often are passengers mistreated on a train vs. a plane, and how frequently would train passengers seek compensation? And how much did they kay fit that train ticket, vs. the average airfare?

Maybe the customer is always right, even when the situation is beyond the transport company’s control. Is the idea that, if you demand the royal treatment, fly first class, and you’ll be rewarded for the price. Got more time to get from Point A to Point B, and less disposable income? Look into train travel, but don’t expect them to bend over backwards every step of the way.

Train travelers aren't forced to sit three abreast in seats 17.5" wide with 28" or 29" inches of pitch.

Train travelers aren’t forced to undergo invasive and onerous security screenings, either. It’s too bad that trains aren’t a viable means of crossing the Atlantic.

Quite frankly we only have one side of this story.
Brussels is a big station. It is rubbish to say that no staff could be found to give advice, Eurostar or otherwise.
Clearly someone with a sense of entitlement. They arrived the same day, so didn't lose a hotel night or anything. If they lost a pre booked museum ticket tough, no airline or train company will cover that. Just possibly their insurance company might.
Welcome to the real world of travel. Do your research, know your own diversionary options. Be flexible.
