I will be traveling in June from Cincinnati to Nice w/ a layover (and plane change) of only 55 minutes in Zurich. Should I start worrying now?! I've looked at the Zurich airport website, but I couldn't really judge its size.
Cathy: It’s a small facility…you shouldn’t have a problem as long as there are no delays. I just went through ZRH in late November with a 1 hour 25 minute change on the front end and a 50 minute change on the return with no issues. You’ll probably spend more time waiting on the underground train than the actual ride from E gates to the main terminal/A-B gates...3 minute wait & 2 minute ride. Note the cool hologram of a Swiss milk maid when you're on the shuttle train. I was travelling in off-season, but there were no lines whatsoever until we got to the gate to board on the way home...normal gate line. Happy travels!
As international airports go Zurich is kind of small, but it does have two terminal buildings. If your connecting flight is in the same terminal you should have plenty of time. If it's in the other terminal you're cutting it close but should still make it time.
You'll have to pass through both immigration and a security screening. Zurich handles these very efficiently, and long lines are typically not a problem.
I also have a 1 hour layover and change. I checked the web site and the international terminal gates are about 20-min from domestic/EU gates. They have a tram system thats like 5-10 min - then you walk through customs. Its not as chaotic as many big ones - so you should be fine. All is well marked - just make sure you know what gates/terminals on your boarding pass - and get all the passes for the flight ahead (which is usually the case).
If you like - check their offical website for the diagram - A/B is EU and E-international terminals.
Thanks SO much for all your helpful info...I feel much better about my short layover!
