I’m flying Icelandair to Munich next week and am debating using my free check bag option or carry on. I know European airlines are more strict with carry on and I’m worried both my carry on and personal items will be slightly over (by 2 cm or so). Anyone have any problems being told to check their items at the gate? If so, will they make me pay an extra fee even though it’s technically included in my ticket? Also, worries about lost luggage if I do check. Any weigh-ins greatly appreciated :)
Whether or not they will let you take it is up to the gate agent. I have seen them have people put their bags in the sizer and then check them.
If you get free checked baggage then you get free checked baggage.
Icelandair's airport transfer at Keflavik is excellent. This is their bread and butter. It's efficient and quick.

I don't know what Icelandair's rules are, but it's not uncommon for the included luggage to only apply if you check in the "regular way", and doing it at the gate will cost extra.
Iceland Air is quite efficient, so I would not worry. That said, we have flown out of Seattle on Iceland air a number of times and every single time they weigh all of bags, including carryon, and check for the size. Coming home they have not checked the size, bu have weighed them. Their carryon size is quite a bit smaller than Delta, AF, etc. If you are worried about lost luggage, you might consider an Air Tag so at least you know where your bag is.
Friends flew on Icelandair from Canada to Paris via Reykjavik two weeks ago.
Their checked bags arrived just fine in Paris.
