This topic has been answered before, but over a year ago. My daughter will be arriving in Amsterdam (from the US) and then has 55 mins until her flight to Budapest. Both flights are on KLM and her luggage will be checked through. Has anyone done this recently? Any advice? Thanks.
It will be close. She will have to go through Immigration and a security check before reaching the gate. At the immigration checkpoint there is an express line for those with flights leaving soon. There will be a monitor overhead listing which flights qualify. But even if she misses her flight, KLM will put her on a later flight. They have three direct flights a day, in addition to flights via partner airlines.
We were caught in that same situation about a year ago and didn't make the connections. A couple of things worked against. The plane was about 15 mins late. AND we were sitting in the far back right hand side about as far from the exist as you could get. Took over 20 mins to get off the plane which is what killed us. The next time we will make sure that we are sitting closer to the door if we have that type of connection. Get her as close to the exit as you can. We missed the connecting flight by about two minutes. The KLM was very nice, understanding, and booked us on another flight about two hours later. It worked out. At least Amsterdam is a very nice airport to kill time in.
Thank you both for the useful advice. We'll keep our fingers crossed and be prepared for her to adjust her plans if necessary.
Make sure she asks if they can print her boarding pass for the second flight when she checks in. If not, make sure she stops at a KLM transfer desk after the immigration check to get a boarding pass. My experience is they do NOT issue them at the gate and will send her back to get one (others may have different info, this is a couple years dated). If she has to kill time while waiting for a rebooked flight, the AMS airport has a new park with rooftop/outdoor access. Check a map to find, it's located between two wings of the airport.
