Shocking price diff. round trip versus one way!

Hi, As I have noted on the board, I am considering a 14 day Family Europe tour with ETBD. The tour starts in Rome and ends in Paris. This means I could do one of two things, either fly open jaw into Rome and out of Paris or fly round trip into one place and then get a one way fare back to return city( ie, fly into and out of Paris and purchase a one way to Rome to meet tour)
I have spent hours online, and no open jaw is not " just a little more" for the route I need. First of all from the two international airports closest to me one only has Air Canada flights flying internationally , and the price of going to the other airport means a ferry trip and an overnight , plus more travel time , so more expensive, then the CHEAP air Zoom flight return to Paris.

What I have found is this , Air France will sell me a one way ticket Paris to Rome for July 14th at $1,058.00 OR I could use the same date and get a round trip ticket for $77.00 and not use return portion.

Is that not shocking!! I mean we all know returns can be cheaper then one way, but that is almost ONE THOUSAND dollars different!

You may want to consider flying out of Chicago or Seattle - and go with Lufthansa or United or Air-France (which ever goes to both Paris and Rome direct from the major us city). You may need the help of an agent who can check on deals not listed online. Id try a big airline line Lufthansa or United first - then an agent.

Come on down to Seattle (your $ is still worth more) and fly Northwest Airlines "open-jaws" to Paris and Rome (I did it with Paris and Amsterdam) - they do have some flights that fly non-stop from Seattle so make sure to check out their web site or visit a good travel agent. Just avoid flying on an airline that stops in Chicago if you can help it. I did that once and won't do that again!
