Shipping a car from USA to RUSSIA

Hello. I have several questions about shipping a car from USA to RUSSIA. Hoping somebody will have information.

I am a Russian citizen. I have spent some time living in USA and bought a car here. I am going to travel back to Russia and bring my car with me. The car is 2012 VW golf. I have both Russian and US drivers license.

Would I need to pay any tax on the car? I am not planning to sell it in Russia, I will eventually ship it back to USA after around 3-4 months.
Also would I need to register my car in Russia, or I would be able to use it with US licence plate

any information would be appreciated.

I may be wrong, but I doubt that there is anyone posting on this site who has that kind of technical information. You probably should check with the Russian embassy or Russian consulate to be sure that the information you need is absolutely correct and not just someone's opinion.

mashikbeats,

there are people and companies that specialize with shipping people's cars/and homes (stuff) across the world.

good luck.

happy trails.

Wow, what a question. Unfortunately that is not common problem on this site. As a citizen I am sure the Russian embassy would be your best source for information. Are you sure it makes economic sense to ship a car both ways for a short period of time. My gut tells me it would be cheaper, and certainly more hassle free, to just rent or lease a vehicle for four months.

For 3-4 months, it won't be cost effective to take your own car. Needless to say, relatively few cars are going in that direction now--and probably less in the future.

If you were taking a barely used Mustang Cobra or a new Corvette to Russia, I'd tell you to go for it. Only if you could turn it for a big profit would taking a car be worth the trouble.
