Probably no need to buy more than the day of but there are some good discount if purchased well ahead of time. If over sixty you can buy a discount card.

If you know your departure date, go ahead and check the renfe web site now...you might get a good deal. There are several trains during the day.

how much is the train fare between madrid and seville? apparently, it's too early for february 2011 fares to be posted on the renfe website.

i've read that it could be as much as $234 per person one way??? could that be correct?

If you purchase tickets 60 days out, you can get some good fares. I paid €48 last summer for one way and there were fares as low as €34 but didn't fit my time schedule. Renfe site is tricky but can be done.

When I did it 6 years ago, I bought tickets right before getting on the train. But that was 6 years ago, during Feb/March. Rules may have changed.

I made that trip today and there were empty seats. However, it would be better to check the renfe web site and purchase ahead of time [INVALID] 62 1/2 days will get you the best price for sure, and there is no line to get in at the ticket counter. Just show your printed from home ticket. My price was 32.55 euros vs 100+ if purchased later. The trip left at 2:45 and arrived at 5:15. Be on time, the train does not wait! A great ride by the way. Your ticket will have the coach and the seat number printed on it.
