I've never flown Swiss before and I notice you cannot select seats at time of purchase. Can you request seats in advance, or, is there a way to select a few days in advance of the flight? It's a long flight from ORD to ZRH direct, so I really don't want to get stuck in a terrible seat!
Angela: I just flew with Swiss from ORD to MAD in late November and can report that you’ll need to phone them directly after purchasing online to request seat assignments. They’ll do it over the phone for you – no charge (don’t book over the phone, or you’ll incur a $20 per ticket charge). I should also mention that our assignments changed without notice three times prior to our trip. I only discovered the changes because I called and checked-up on it before we left. No big deal…I was able to change them back to something very acceptable when I checked in online the night before our flight. There’s nothing too unusual about airlines changing seat assignments…it happens all the time. Just keep on eye on it so you’re not surprised when you check in. BTW, this is a great airline.
Angela, ditto everything Michael said about contacting Swiss for seats. We just booked a flight yesterday with them and I was able to call right away and got great seats.
Michael, thanks for the heads-up about the seat switcheroo situation, we'll be sure to call in advance of our flight to confirm.
Suzy, I say we got great seats because we only booked our airfare 3 days ago for travel in 3 weeks and I thought at this late date, the only seats left would be far apart and/or square in the middle of a row. But we were able to get 2 seats together on each Transatlantic leg on the 2-across seats (the airframe is an Airbus A330-200 and has a 2-4-2 seat configuration. 2 seats, aisle, 4 seats, aisle, 2 seats). I'm just pleased we are sitting together and not in the middle, making it a win, indeed!
By the way, I use www.seatguru.com all the time before booking seats. Hasn't steered me wrong yet.
I too am looking at Swiss Air. Angela, curious you
mentioned you were lucky enough to get great seats on your flight. What seats do you consider great on the airplane. Thanks!
