Does the Select Saver Pass offer discounts on gondolas in the Bernese Oberland area? How about hydrofoils and boats in the Como area?
Thanks!
You're right, Lola. I saw Flexi pass and not Select pass.
I agree with Lola below. This looks like a Eurail pass of some type from either RailEurope or MySwissAlps. I don't see a select saver pass option on the official Swiss rail website. If it is not an official Swiss pass, you only get a 25% discount to go to the tops of the Jungfrau or Schilthorn.
This map shows the rail lines included with the pass, and what lines have a 50% discount. Looks like in the Berner Oberland, trains from Interlaken Ost to Mürren and Grindelwald, as well as the incline from Lauterbrunnen to Grütschalp, the bus to Stechelberg, and the cable car from Stechelberg to Mürren are included with the pass. Trains to Kleine Scheidegg and the Jungfraujoch, as well as the cable car from Mürren to Schilthorn are 50% off. The map shows boats on Lake Lugano, but not any boats on Lake Como.
I believe Kim is talking about a multi-country pass, not a Swiss Pass. The map Lee provided applies only to "true"Swiss passes. Coverage for a pass is much more limited in Switzerland. There is a chart on the Switzerland page of the Railpass section, comparing them. It shows coverage above Interlaken at 25% for the trains, including the train up the Jungfrau, but no discount at all for the gondolas and cablecars. It won't cover private railways very well either. My sister, using a 2-country pass for France and Switzerland, had to pay a hefty supplement to ride from Brig east a few stops. I have no idea if railpasses are good for discounts on the ferries on Italian lakes, such as Como. They don't mention such discounts on the Italy page in the Railpass section.
I had to look up " Pass" myself as I was not familiar with the term, but I knew there's no Swiss Pass by that name. Kim, you don't say where else you will travel or for how long. If your travel includes sufficient time in Switzerland and riding a number of mountain lifts, then often your best choice is some type of Swiss Pass (or maybe a Half-Fare Card) and point-to-point tickets for your other travel. You can often get advance purchase "mini" fares in Italy that are cheaper than travel with a pass. Same with travel in Germany (Lee can explain).
