The the first Leonardo Express departure for FCO is 5:52 a.m. arriving at FCO at 6:23 a.m. We have a 7:30 a.m. Wednesday flight. If we check in and print our boarding passes ahead of time can we safely get through security in 30 minutes or so, or is it just too risky? It looks like our only other alternative is a taxi at 40 euros. If we have to take a taxi from the main train station area in Rome what time would we need to leave for the airport?
I would suggest that you be there at 5:30am. Yes, this is 2 hours early. Often, you don't need that much time but often, there are several early morning flights and Italian security does not seem to be that well organized. You can get caught up in long lines. It just isn't worth it to try to get through in an hour or so (even though you often can).
Is it a direct flight back or a connecting flight to somewhere else in Europe for the direct flight home? That makes a difference in the response/
The flight is direct to London. My understanding is that British Airways only requirement is that you be at the gate 20 minutes prior to departure.
The flight is not connected with a flight to the United States.
If you provide complete info to begin with that we can give better responses. What you are suggesting would be tight but do able. Security for domestic flights is not that bad, traffic is light at that time, and the terminal is near the train.
Ask yourself this....
What do I do if I miss my flight due to slow security check in?
What's your back up plan? Will it cost you more money to re-arrange your flight?
Just a thought. You may want to run this by the air carrier you booked with.
