Seat Selection at Check-in

Thought I'd check and see if Air France still allows free seat selection when checking in 24 hours in advance. I've noticed some airlines no longer allow this and you are stuck with whatever they give you. I want to save myself $60 ($30 X 2). It's now 2 days before my flight and it appears that half the flight is still empty in economy. But only 4 seats are still for sale in economy. This aircraft has a 333 configuration, so I'm guessing with only 4 seats available, picking a window seat and aisle seat hoping that the middle will be empty isn't going to work.

Originally I was booked in Basic Economy on Delta, but due to flight cancellation, I'm now on Air France Economy (ticket type E), which gives access via AF confirmation number to purchase a seat in advance.

Not interested in hearing stories about being stuck in the middle seat and how you would never not purchase a seat. I'm willing to gamble, I just want to know if AF has had a policy change which might influence my decision to wait for a day.

I looked and they just mentioned economy. I'm not sure if I'm considered economy since I bought the cheap tickets. Some airlines have decided not to let those basic economy/economy light individuals pick seats, I guess since many of us waited for that 24 hours in advance to get our seats.

It does not look like air france sells a basic economy so you will probably have an economy seat and you can probably pick your seat at check-in

I would not assume that booking a window seat and aisle will guarantee you an empty middle seat because there are a lot of people just like you who didn’t want to pay the $30

Just did a phantom booking and it does allow seat selection for free, among certain seats, at the time of booking.

Presumably you could access your reservation and select from among the free ( no extra cost) seats. Generally toward the back or the left over middle seats
