We are travelling from Amsterdam to Interlaken using the night train (goes thru Basel). We have Railpasses - Saver - 1st class. I cannot seem to make a seat reservation using the DB Bahn website. I keep getting the message: "It is not possible to make a reservation for international connections at www.bahn.de without the purchase" How can I make a seat reservation? We are going July 5th - leaves 8:30pm. We don't need to purchase tickets because we have the RailPasses.
Thanks, Anne
It probably means that since the Dbahn website is to make reservations for trains that start or end in Germany, you can't for your journey since it doesn't do either. Try going through the train website for Switzerland. www.sbb.ch
The DB website will only let you make a reservation as far as Basel. From Basel to Interlaken you don't need a seat reservation anyways.
To book a reservation without a ticket from Amsterdam to Basel, leave the "reservation for seat only" box unchecked and make the destination "Basel Bad". When you check availability, it will show you the full fare global ticket (rail plus accommodations) prices and at the bottom it will say "book only extra charge". Click on that link for a passholder reservation. Note: once you have reserved an accommodation, you have it for the duration of the trip. Since you have a railpass that covers Switzerland, you can stay on the train from Basel Badischer Bahnhof to Basel SBB Bahnhof. There you catch an IC the rest of the way to Interlaken Ost.
