Hey all! I want to make reservations for a train trip from Interlaken to Munich, involving several changes. While booking the whole journey throgh the bahn website, they give me the option to reserve seats for some of the different trains involved, charging 4 euros for each seat I wish to reserve. Is it really necessary to reserve seats? What if I decide not to? The specific trians I'm referring to are from Interlaken to Bern and from Bern to Zurich. I'll be traveling on June. Thanks!
There are trains between those destinations every half an hour so it should not be an issue, especially if you are traveling outside of rush hours.
If you don't have a reserved seat you sit in an unreserved seat. Depending on the type of car there is either a little red and green light indicating a reserved seat or slips of paper stuck in a clip above the seat or on the back of the seat. Or you sit in a reserved seat until someone kicks you out of their reserved seat. If you cannot find a vacant seat, you stand or go down to the snack car.
Seat reservations are not necessary, but if available, I always buy one. Not because I won't get a seat otherwise, but because I don't like fumbling around on a crowded train, with Luggage, searching for a vacancy. With a seat reservation, you know in advanced where to find your seat, and when the train arrivés, you can procede directly towards it.
Thanks for your help; you've been very kind, as usual.
