Seat availabilityon trains in Central Europe first week of May

I will be traveling in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria from Thursday May 5 to Monday May 9. Will the trains be crowded in 2nd class or should I book in First class to be assure a good window seat? Since I don't do this everyday, I want a good seat availablity. I've heard about crowded trains I am worried that 2nd class will be crowded and I won't get a good seat however 1st class is pricey. Suggestions or comments? Thanks.

Sitting forward or backwards is a bit more of a gamble. The cars are make to run in both directions and sometimes a train will change direct during the trip so it is hard to forecast if you seat will be going forward or backward.
