Schiphol to Bruges

Hi, Any advice on getting from Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport to Bruges? We will be arriving from Dublin about 1:30 pm on a Monday in November, and will not be renting a car.
Thank you

Achiphol is easy to get around in. Go to the middle (or hub). There you will find ATMs, shops, an information desk, etc. You will go downstairs to get to the easy immigration station. Once you are through there turn to the right and walk up to a train ticket counter. Ask a clerk for a ticket to Bruges and pay with the cash you have gotten at the ATM. Trains are off towards the left. Ask if you need help.

The train in the airport will take you west to Belgium. You can check the train schedules online. I think the trains at at 10:34, 11:34, 1:34, 2:34 and 3:34. See Thalys.com Prior ticket purchase will not be required.

Prior ticket purchase will not be required. The Thalys high-speed trains from Schipol to Antwerp, where you connect to local trains to Bruges, use airline style pricing. So to get the lowest price prior ticket purchase it is essential, but you are locked into a specific departure and the savings are significant. In addition there are regular inter-city trains from the airport to Antwerp which don't accept advance reservations but take a bit longer and sometimes require up to two different transfers to get to Antwerp. Head to this site for schedules and fares: http://www.nshispeed.nl/en

Thanks for your answers. I am thinking it might be more economical to buy a Euorail pass.

I don't think so. The intercity tickets are not very expensive.

Is $111 reasonable for Schiphol to Bruges and back, or would a rail pass make more sense so we can travel about?
Thanks

Somebody else will have to help you with the ticket cost. I don't see why buying point to point tickets would limit your flexibility. If you buy the ticket seventy-two hours befor you use it there will be a substantial discount. Even if you buy a ticket the same day you use it the cost of intercity train tickets is pretty inexpensive compared to Eurrail tickets. We used to buy Eurail passes for a whole trip, a month and a half. No more, we buy the point to point tickets at least three days befor using them. When we get off a trail we immediately go to the ticket window and buy a ticket for the next leg, in seventy-two hours time.

Regular intecity trains in Belgium and the Netherlands (ie, all trains not operated by Thalys or Deutsche Bahn) don't offer advanced purchase discounts, so you can just buy them at the station on your day of travel. Cheaper than a rail pass and no less flexability.

Thanks, everyone. We have finalized our itinerary and will be in Amsterdam for 4 nights, then traveling to Bruges. It sounds like we can just buy a ticket before we leave. We will then be going from Bruges to Haarlem for a few nights, then to the airport and home. I guess we'll buy the tickets there.
Thanks again for all the helpful info

I am unable to find out the price of the tickets, or a website for intercity trains. does anyone have any idea how much it might cost? The trip will be 2nd class from Amsterdam to Bruges for 2, midday on a Friday, or better, how I could find the info. I apologize if this has already been explained. I find the trains very confusing.
Thanks, again!
