Does anyone know how early you can check-in luggage at Schiphol at KLM? I would like to check bags early, head to Amsterdam for a few hours before returning to sit at the airport.
If this doesn't work out, you can always put your bags in the luggage locker at Centraal.
As long as check-in is open for your flight, you can check your bags. So if you have a late flight, check-in in the morning is OK. However, as suggested, since the airport is a good 30 min away or so, it may be easier to just get a locker at Centraal.
Be aware that the lockers at Centraal Station only accept credit cards with chips. You can get around this by purchasing a prepaid debit card at the ticket counters.
Thanks, it's good to know. Is this debit card good at the train stations when buying tickets from the machine? Do you know the amount one can put on the cards? Do you need to purchase the card with cash?
I believe KLM says that you can check bags a early as two hours before flight time.

The debit cards have the Visa logo on them, and you must pay for them with cash. You can use them anywhere Visa is accepted, including the ticket machines at train stations. Dutch Rail sells them in denominations of 10 euros and higher. For more info head here: http://tinyurl.com/23454g3
Sorry... can't answer the luggage question but want to encourage your excursion. Our AMS layover was 5 hours and I was concerned about having enough time there and back. Good news... the trip into town is quick and easy and after a few hours meandering we felt we had a very good overview of the city to last for years to come.
