Scenic train travel Amsterdam to Naples in 3 days

We have 3days to travel from Amsterdam to Naples. Should we train all or part of the way? what scenic train trips might we take? Where shall we spend the night?

If you stop somewhere in Germany then go part through Switzerland stop in Luzern then go to Lauterbrunnen valley and stay then to Milan Italy that would be scenic

That is a God-awfully long time to spend on a train. It's a minimum of 22 hours. Have you considered flying? You should be able to get a direct flight for slightly more than $100.

If the goal was to get to Naples as quickly as possible then a flight is a good recommendation but if time is on your side nothing beats a slow train trip with some nice stops along the way. Some have been mentioned but get a map and draw a line. See what you think is interesting. I would do it.

I love train travel. One day I hope to take the Trans Siberian railroad from Moscow to Vladivostok. Still, being chained to a semi upright chair for such a length of time would be seriously uncomfortable, especially in the same clothes.

Your are chained only if flying.

If you go by train you will see some of the best scenery in Europe. For the route you could go Amsterdam-Cologne, then Cologne Basel (through the Rhine valley past Loreley), Basel-Milan through the mountains and then Milan-Naples on one of Italy's high speed trains, the Frecciarossa or Italo. I would break the journey somewhere in Switzerland like Basel, Bern or Zurich.

If you are on a long trip ( many weeks) and have the time, I think this would be fun. When we are in Europe for a couple on months, we do a few long train days and love them. I think you would want at least 3 stop overs: one each in Germany, Switzerland, and Milano.
