By 2021.
I loved those tickets and hate, hate, hate top-up cards.
Zut alors! I must return to Paris tout suite to use up the remaining four tickets of my carnet.
I have one unused Paris Metro ticket that I keep in my purse with pleasant memories that I will return.
Not surprised with this news since similar systems are used in several other cities. And, it will cut down on the used paper tickets littering the ground at Metro exits.
It's about time the Metro caught up to London Tube's electronic ticketing, already more than a decade in the lead. Even the Montreal Metro, much smaller country cousin to Paris, has offered electronic tickets for several years. Paris should follow those models to allow transfers to buses, etc. However, this article notes that it is far from a done deal, so full approval could move through the various bureaucracies at the speed of rush-hour surface traffic.
I hope Paris does a better job of rolling out the system than New York and Boston did. I have had some bad experiences with both of those systems.
Again, in 5 years. 2021.
Jean--same here with the 1 leftover ticket, hanging onto it fondly. Actually, when I purchased my carnet there was a single ticket already in the tray, so it was a bonus to begin with.
I much prefer a pass, whether it's one you can top up or like the paper one I had in Budapest for 7 days or the 8 day in Vienna, covered everything and I used the heck out of it.
