OK this is probably a silly question but we cant remember exactly what we bought the last time (2004) we went to Europe. Am I correct that the select saver pass is what we want? Two of us will be traveling and it says one pass for 2 or more people.....but we still purchase 2 passes right? I found our old ticket copy and it says eurail selectpass saver and has both of our names on it - so I guess we buy for 2 and get the one ticket. I guess since the price is twice of what it was back then it kind of threw me and made me wonder if we were calculating it correctly. We will be seeing 4 countries and staying several days in each country so we only need 6 days of travel. Am I on the right track? This is the last thing on our list to do. We are going the first part of September - should we wait longer to purchase the railpass or get it now? Thanks again for any help. Anne
You may be on the wrong track. Because of the increased prices for rail passes they are not the good deal they once were. You really need to do some point to point pricing to determine if it is a good deal. It is not automatic.
Once you have your itinerary is firm. Determine the actual number of "travel days", then compare cost of point-to-point vs cost of Rail Pass days.
The actual travel days will determine how many days you need on a Rail Pass.
Comparing P-T-P to Rail Pass Days will determine IF you need a Rail Pass.
The cost of the Rail Pass is for each person (i.e. time 2), however, there is only one ticket issued on a Save Pass as the discount is for 2 or more.
It might be cheaper to fly sinve it's become expensive to travel by train.
You can fly between two cities for a few $ if you choose the right day. I use this web site to check prices. You can search by any city or whole country for a whole month.
