If anyone is planning to travel across the Atlantic, SAS currently has a sale. https://www.flysas.com
I just checked this out and the prices are very good for travel November through next May.
"Right now we have amazing deals on flights worldwide. Travel period: 18 September 2023 – 18 May 2024. For Asia, the USA and Canada, the offer applies to travel in the period: 1 November 2023 – 18 May 2024. Book by 28 August."
Given that my CPH - ORD route was canceled with hours notice on July 18, I'm not yet ready to trust SAS. The ORD - CPH route was canceled from ORD departure on July 17 and didn't fly until the 19th with a delay of around 12 hours. As in, If you were scheduled to leave on July 19 evening, you actually took off mid-day on the 20th. From Copenhagen, hub for the airline, flights were canceled multiple days.
I am in the process of disputing my reimbursements, but to date, I am out of pocket and told I am not due anything under EU261.
This is not the first time I had flown the airline. In past trips, within the past 5 years, I found the flight attendants to be surly and brusque. Service this time was fine, but with a small fleet insufficient to cover cancellations due to technical issues, I am re-thinking further SAS flights until they fully emerge from bankruptcy.
The summer routes between Chicago and Copenhagen were operated by an SAS "partner", HiFly. The change was announced only a month or so before summer season. This resulted in many of us having to change our seat reservations as the plane configurations and types were different. Probably the same situation with other routes. No Premium Economy on the HiFly planes.
I sincerely hope other SAS fliers have a better experience! Good luck on the sales.
I've flown SAS many times, and it has usually worked fine. There have been problems, but not more than on other airlines. For the vast majority of flights I've had no reason to complain.
HiFly is not a "partner", they are an airline that specializes in charter flights and wet leasing. But I'm sorry you had to travel on a Hifly-plane.
Actually, the HiFly plane was great and the flight attendants terrific. It was better than I remember SAS-owned planes, but it has been about 5 years since my last pre-covid SAS flight.
When SAS informed us by email of the need to select a new seating cabin, they referred to HiFly as their "partner". I am aware that this term is quite loosely applied.
Yikes, that sounds pretty dreadful to have such disruptions in flight schedules.
Great to know about the sale. Just be aware that SAS sometimes charges a change fee and an even higher cancellation fee on many levels of service. I recently paid $375 to change a date of travel on a business class ticket, unlike (most) US carriers, so read the fine print. Specifically on United, there are no longer any change or cancellation fees, the funds go back into your account but need to be used within 12 months. (This excludes the US law that allows you to cancel a booking within 24 hours of making the reservation.)
Since the pandemic started, SAS flight crews have been really pleasant, including earlier this week arriving into ARN from SFO via CPH. (And BTW, my flight arrived early into CPH, immigration was about a 15 minute wait, & the 1-hour transfer time was more than enough to easily make the connecting on-time flight.)
