Has anyone traveled recently on SAS from the United States? The carry-on limit is posted as 18 pounds and "one only". Does this preclude carrying a cross-body purse or small bag in addition to the one carry-on permitted? We have traveled other international carriers but never encountered the "one carry-on item only". Definitely packing light on this trip! Thanks for your help and response.

In addition to this allowance, all passengers are allowed to bring a
handbag or small laptop bag onboard for free.
Wow, they don't allow much do they? I couldn't travel with any airline with such limits since we always carry a lot.
Thank you, Edgar. That's helpful to know; plus, I appreciate the quick turnaround on your response! Having never traveled on this airline, we look forward to the experience.
Terri, I understand how you feel, but we are committed to traveling as lightly as possible. Having been a blue-sky (and sometime not-so blue) road jockey for some years in my work, I value the travel freedom that comes with it.
@Terri - I thought you always traveled Business/First. You get much more generous allowances when you go that way. Swiss also has the 8 kg (18 lb) limit on carry-ons.
According to the SAS website,
"In addition to this allowance, all passengers are allowed to bring a handbag or small laptop bag onboard for free."
The weight restriction on your carryon is 8kg/18#. 8kg is 17.6#, so is the 8kg significant if everyone gets 18#, which is more? Or do they check your passport and restrict those people from "metric countries" to 17.6#, while allowing Americans an extra 0.4#. I would not be surprised if they don't even have scales in both systems, just in kg, and I would not be surprised if they weigh your bag in kg and impose the 8kg limit, so pack for 17.6#.
Lee,
You are kind to check the resources. On another travel site I read notes about 17.6# on a "true conversion scale" and hoped someone who recently traveled from the US on SAS might shed light on it. I've prepared myself to pack 17# including the backpack weight. A family member has a tournament fish weighing scale, so I plan to use it.
Given that there is little on the RS site regarding SAS, I may post after our trip on the restrictions. I've traveled SWISS Air, and they did weigh at the gate! However, things change. Thank you for taking time to respond; it is appreciated. aah
I flew SAS last week from SFO. I had both a travel backpack and a purse and neither were weighed.
In both locations they have the self check kiosk that I would print my boarding pass from and then go straight to the gate. There was plenty of room in the overhead on both flights.
Janine, that's good news to hear from a recent SAS traveler. I learned that our carry-on bags will likely be checked at Newark but not necessarily at IAH in Houston. Was your flight non-stop from SFO to Europe or did you have a connecting state-side before the international leg? The purse and backpack are definitely going onboard with me. I just don't want to be a few ounces or even a pound over the limit and find we must check the pack at the last minute! Thanks so much for responding!
I flew direct from SFO to Copenhagen. The only issue I had regarding my liquids/TSA was a pair of scissors with my needlepoint was too long and were taken away in Copenhagen.
I had no complaints on either the flights.
Janine, thanks to you and others who responded to this question, I feel much better about flying SAS. I especially appreciate your reports on the recent flight. That's very reassuring.
