santorini - tuscany

Hello! My sisters and I are traveling to Santorini/Tuscany in April of 2014. We already have accommodations for both places. We arrive Athens on 4/12 and are planning to leave for Santorini on 4/13 and will check out 4/17. What mode of transportation would you recommend we take from Santorini to Venice, Italy? I've tried checking ferry schedules but unfortunately the rates are not available yet for the specified date. If flying is our best option (which is our preference), what airline would you recommend? We're trying to find the least economical value for our travel. Looking forward to hearing back from you.
Thank you. Mayrose

There are no direct flights from Athens to Venice. You would have to go via Rome and probably have to spend a night there. Do you have to go to Venice? you could go to Rome and take the train to wherever, or at least close to, wherever you are staying in Tuscany. Another option is to fly from Athens to Milan and then take the train. There are no ferries from Athens to Venice, you would need to go to Igoumentisa or Patros - both of which are a long way from Athens. In Greece I fly Aegean (preferred) or Olympic. Depends on schedule and what deals are on at the time. Aegean flys out of Santorini on Wed. Friday, Sat and Sunday.

mayrose, It may be possible to get a flight from Santorini to Venice, although there will probably be a change in Athens. Your best bet is probably Aegean Air, although Olympic and EasyJet may also be an option (I haven't checked). Unfortunately, the flight schedules for April 2014 haven't been loaded yet, so you won't be able to check for a month or so. Good luck with your planning!

Thank you so much for all your responses. It is very helpful. I'm making note of the possibilities. I appreciate your help. I will also be sending a message with regards to car and vespa rentals in Tuscany of course car rental will depend on where we will be flying to. Thank you again!

mayrose, As you're planning to rent a car in Italy, note that EACH driver will require the compulsory International Driver's Permit, which is used in conjunction with your home D.L. You'll also have to be extremely careful to avoid the dreaded ZTL areas that exist in many towns in Italy (ie: expensive fines).
