Coming from CT - to San Gimignano. I have searched can find no train. From San Gimignano to Siena - can find no train. From Siena to Lerici - can find no train. Does anyone know how to get to these places? I did go on trenitalia.com but found nothing on the above. Want to take a day trip from SG to Siena it looks easy on the map, but ..... how the heck do you get there? We have been told to rent a car, but really don't want to ..... any suggestions? thanks much. Dianne p.s. we are staying 3 days in each of the above, so it's not like we are covering it all in a day :)

Diane, San Gimignano has no train station. Neither does Lerici. You get to each town by bus. From the CT, check out http://www.atcesercizio.it/ for a bus that may run from La Spezia to Lerici. I can see that it runs from Sarzana to Lerici. Secondly, you'll need to return to Sarzana or La Spezia to take the train to either Florence or Siena. From Florence, you walk to about 1,000' to the SITA bus station and take the bus to San Gimignano. Or, from Sarzana or La Spezia, take the train to Siena. There is a frequent bus from Siena to San G.

I think a rental car out of La Spezia - then to SG - then to Lerici - then drive back up to MXP :) My husband doesn't want to rent a car - thinks it will be one big headache. I think the trains and busses sound like a headache for SG and Lerici :)
