My wife and i are going from venice to salzburg austria and back this summer and i,m trying to find if there are morning trains to take us from salzburg to venice on a direct trip. any help would be greatly appreciated
dave
You will find the schedule for most trains in Europe on German Rail website.
According to that page, there are trains from Salzburg to Villach at 8:12 and 10:12. In Villach you take an Austria Rail Intercity bus to Venice. Those trips take just over 6 hours. There is also an all rail connection leaving Salzburg on an Austria Eurocity train just before 11 and going to Innsbruck, where you change to the German Eurocity train from Munich to Venice via Brenner Pass.
There are no direct daytime trains. The best daytime route is a train from Salzburg to Villach and a highway bus (operated by Austrian Rail) from there to Venezia Piazzale Roma. If you book well in advance on the Austrian Rail site, you can get a SparSchiene fare as low as €29 for the entire trip.
thanks for the info.is it a bus or a train from villach to venice and does the same apply for the venice to salzburg trip
thanks dave
It's a train between Salzburg and Villach and a bus between Villach and Venice. Don't let the term "bus" put you off. This is not a city bus or anything like that. It is a modern bus with a bathroom, bus attendant and snackbar.
Thanks again...very helpful
