Hi - I have the info on the bayern ticket from Munich to Salzburg, but I'm wondering if 10 days later I can buy a bayern ticket IN SALZBURG for the return trip to airport in Munich. Can I buy this online too? Thanks. Julia
There would rarely be a reason to buy a Bayern-Ticket online. You can buy them the day of travel from ticket automats at the station. Since Salzburg Hbf is a border station for the Bahn, you can buy Bayern-Tickets there. You can also buy the Bayern-Ticket in Munich before you go to Salzburg. The machine asks you for the date. Just get it right because the Bayern-Ticket is non-exchangeable. They are currently doing construction on the Hbf in Salzburg, but the map of the area during construction shows Bahn automats next to the tracks. There are both Austrian Rail and German Rail automats, but somewhere I read that the ones by the elevators to the tracks are for German Rail. If you feel you must purchase it in anvance, you can also purchase it online, just make sure you include the actual date of travel in the input. The Bayern-Ticket will have the date printed on it and will only be usable on that date. The order information will show Salzburg to Munich (if that's what you put in) but the ticket will be a regular Bayern-Ticket, usable anywhere in Bavaria.
In 2007 I was in Neumarkt-Kallham, in Austria, and the Austrian Rail automat there sold the Bayern-Ticket, so you might find the Ticket being sold at the Austrian Rail automats in Salzburg, as well.
Thank you, Lee! That's exactly what i needed to know. We will buy it in the Salzburg station. Julia
I've purchased a Bayern ticket in Salzburg. Salzburg is considered the first (or last, depending on which way you are traveling) German rail station on the line.
