I'm leaving next week for a month in Europe. I'm a seasoned traveler but have been busy with work and upon reviewing my itinerary tonight I realized I don't have transportation for one leg of the trip - Salzburg to Interlaken. It doesn't seem like there's an easy way to get between these cities - am I overlooking something?
The runs are going to take you every which way via Munich, Basel, Zurich or whatever. Lots of train changes. You can see these runs on www.sbb.ch. There is a night train that leaves Salzburg for Luzern at 00:44 with one train change in Zurich. From Luzern you could easily train down to Interlaken Ost. This run takes 6:41hrs with a 15 minute train change in Zurich. Other runs can take up to 9.0hrs. Again, check out the website to see the various runs.
Terrific suggestion, thanks!
To piggy back on larry's comments check around sbb.ch. I don't know if cost is a concern or if you have a rail pass, but the swiss rail site has click and rail tickets from salzburg to zurich that you buy online up to a week in advance for a particular train each day. These are normally at a discount cost of the average ticket, you just have to ride a certain train.
If you book online NOW at www.bahn.de you should still be able to to get a Europa-Spezial Schweiz fare. The cheapest one (€49) is most likely sold out, but you probably can get one for €89. You can print the ticket yourself. It's non-exchangeable and non-refundable. Click on the drop-down menu in the upper right hand corner for English. After you get summary timetables for Salzburg-Interlaken, look at the Savings fares column on the far right and click on "Check availability" to see if there still are any discount fares left for each departure time which lists that option. Go back to the summary timetables and click on "Details for all" to see the connecting points.
