Salzburg to Hallstat to Lietchenstein

Hello, i am planning to travel in Europe by train this fall and would love at one point to visit Salzburg, followed by Hallstat then on to Vaduz. 1- Should i take a bus or a train from Salzburg to Hallstat?
2- I do i go to Vaduz? I'm thinking via feldkirk or even Buchs and take a bus to Vaduz? Any thoughts/ideas/suggestions?

mimi, I've never travelled by Bus to Hallstatt, but the train journey is very easy. The trip from Salzburg to Hallstatt is reasonably short (one change in Attnang-Puchheim). When you arrive at the small unmanned station in Hallstatt, you'll walk down to the boat docks for the short ride across the lake on Stefanie. Be sure to have your Camera ready, as the view of the town from across the lake is beautiful. I'd have to do some research on the trip to Liechtenstein, as I've never been there. I'm sure one of the others will have the information. Happy travels!

Liechtenstein Unless you have a compelling reason to go there or you MUST check another country off your list it is not worth it. The alpine scenery around Salzburg and Hallstadt is far superior to that in Liechtenstein. We found the McDonalds in Vaduz much the same as most other countries' but the car park was very square. Is there a special reason?

mimi, If you are asking if the scenery in Liechtenstein is as wonderful as in the Salzkammergut I don't think so. If you are asking if it is as wonderful as that around the Vierwaldstaettersee and Rigi or the Rotair - no way. Or the Berner Oberland - no. The mountains in Liechtenstein are much lower, much more distant, much "rockier". I've never tried to research hiking trails in Liechtenstein so have no idea about them. They may be wonderful. Dunno.
