Hi all. I am travelling from Salzburg to Chur with my family on September 1 in order to make the Glacier Express departing Chur at 14:16. The Railjet train leaving Salzburg at 7:56 would normally get me to Salgrans by 12:23, leaving me plenty of time to transfer to the Intercity train to get to Chur before 13:00. However, there appears to be construction on the Salzburg-Salgrans route according to SBB's site from August 17 to September 3. While the site has the arrival time in Sargrans for those days adjusted to 12:43, it also says to allow up to an hour for extra travel time due to construction. Even if it does add a total of an hour to the normal time, I should make it Salgrans by 13:23, and have just enough time to make one of the next trains to Chur to get on the Glacier Express at 14:16. I wonder if anyone has any insight into how much of a delay to actually expect in this case, and how much risk I'm really taking by sticking with this route. My other options for the day include leaving much earlier from Salzburg and routing through Munich, which I'd like to avoid. And we are pretty set on trying to make the Glacier Express that day if at all possible. Thanks!
The ÖBB website says that the line over the Arlberg pass will be closed down for repairs and that you will have to use a substitute bus between Ötztal and Bludenz, which takes a bit longer than the train. It shows the adjusted time mentioned by you (12:43) and a transfer time of 20 min in Sargans to catch the IC to Chur, which is more than sufficient. By no means travel through Munich, since the line from Munich to the Swiss border is under reconstruction at several points; that journey would get time consuming and tedious.
