Any memorable places in or near Salamanca, Spain. Ever hear of La Alberca or Candelario? Are they accessible by public transport as a day trip from Salamanca?
We spent a couple of days in Salamanca. It's a beautiful city, lots to see on foot. The cathedral, university are all worth spending time exploring. Plaza Mayor is quite magnificent. Try to be there at dusk when the lights come on.
Either La Alberca or Candelario are well worth a half day. I like La Alberca better, most people go the other way due to the half-timbered hours in Candelario. Public transportation might be a trick. I've never seen anthing close to La Alberca. I've seen a bus stop at Bejar, but it's a good three miles up a pretty steep hill to get to Candelario. If you're really interested in this type of little town, you might want to consider knocking around a bit further south (Extremadura). The public transporation is still going to be an adverse factor, I'd think.
Check on Pueblo Ingles.. you might spend a week in La Alberca with them-- a good program. Salamanca...be sure to see Plaza Mayor in the day light and in the dark as well when the lights are one. Tourist information is there on the Plaza, and tours, Spanish only. Great city to explore on foot at different hours of the day.
