Safe to add Passport ID to reserve a rental car Online from Europcar?

As I was in the process of logging on to the Europcar Reservation Site, they asked for my Driver's License and Passport #'s. I'm Ok with the DL, but how safe is it to provide my Passport # online?
Proactively yours,

Very safe to add passport number. Not much anyone can do with your passport number.

regarding using (and leaving) your drivers license as ID instead of your passport have a look at both side by side. Passport - name and number and nationality. DL - name, current address, number, some have height and eye colour and a much better photo and more current.

Which is more dangerous to lose? Both can be replaced, albeit with a degree of hassle, but if a criminal has your current address and the fact that you aren't at home it makes your house much more vulnerable.

True Nigel. How many people realize the US is fairly unique in the total absense of a required national (or even state) identification document. Here the locals are required to have 3.
