Ryanair travel

Thanks to the person who answered my earlier question about travel from Paris to Cinque Terre. If we fly a smaller airline such as Ryanair, will we have to pay big bucks for major airline luggage allotments?

Pisa is a great airport to fly into if your destination is the CT. My advice on Ryan Air is to read the small print closely on the Ryan Air website. I call your attention to the "Fees" tab on the little yellow line at the top of the home page. Here are some things you will need to know before looking at the page. How many bags do you intend to check? How much do they weigh in kilograms? Do you intend to declare your checked baggage online or in person at the airport? Will you be flying peak or non-peak? The extra fees vary greatly depending on your answers. You could pay over $200 for two heavy bags flying peak. Please read the page carefully. Also read the General Conditions page.

Carrie, If you're planning to fly RyanAir, I'd advise being especially careful with luggage weights and sizes. They're very strict about weights and if you're even slightly over the limit, the overweight charges can be hefty. One other point to note with RyanAir is that they often use somewhat "out of the way" airports. If you're flying from Paris, it will likely be from Beauvais airport, which is a consderable distance outside the city. You'll have to allow both time and money to get to and from the airports. In the same situation, my preference would be EasyJet from Paris CDG to Milan / MXP. While they also have somewhat restrictive weight limits, I prefer them to RyanAir. When travelling via air in Europe, it's important to remember that only one carry-on item is permitted. That doesn't mean one plus a "personal item" such as a Purse or Laptop, it means ONE ONLY of the approved size and weight. Cheers!

Carrie, Easjet has a PSA-ORY or CDG flight. Personally, after flying Ryanair in 2005 (Treviso-aka Venice-to Beauvais/Paris), I vowed to do everything possible to not fly Ryanair again. I use skyscanner.net and whichbudget.com to figure out what is available for domestic flights. In spite of having a 2-hour delay last May, (PSA to ORY) I still prefer Easyjet.
.....Just my 2 bits!

up to 3 bags each on Easyjet, it's 12Euros a bag plus they have a 20kg(44lb) max per bag. I think it drops to 10E after 3. I avoid "robbinRyan" whenever possible!
