Ryanair - Toilets and Toilet -- Fact or Fiction?

The news has been chattering over Ryanair's 'new' savings measures a lot. (Today's news was about the rule that RA flight attendants lose weight to keep down fuel expenses.) The talk about toilet fees has been much tossed about for some time now, and now there are stories about RA being in discussions with Boeing to get the number of toilets reduced to one so that extra seats can be added. Has anyone actually flown RA recently to confirm any of this? (Or, if in the near future, is there a credible source?) I have googled for this but the hits seem to be possibly coming from an oft requoted, redigested source. I'm hoping that the RS Helpline can serve as the 'snopes' of travel news on this one. (I see there are even sites citing the odds from bookies on the new new idea from RA!) What's up? Will this impact 2012 summer travel? Anything specific on dates and routes impacted??

No truth to it as far as I can tell. Ryanair is notorious for announcing things that never materialize (all publicity is good publicity). I wouldn't worry about it. Oh, and the pay toilet thing would be illegal, so it's not going to happen, either.

Most of this is fact. I believe that there is already a 1 British Pound fee for the loo (British word for toilet). Next they were trying to reduce the toilets down to one and covert the extra space into a standing room only area. I don't know how far they have gotten with these latest efforts as the last I heard (some months ago), many countries were not accepting their planes with those conversions. But yes, Ryan Air has proposed these changes.

Wow. That was quick. Thanks. I would still very much like to hear from anyone who has actually traveled RA recently and experienced any changes in the "loo" policies. To be clear, we use RA often (when the total price works out) and pretty well know most of the tricks/tips ... can print a boarding pass in a foreign place and have learned to enjoy places to stay/eat in Beauvais. <g> So, this was more in the spirit of what we might find in the "new surprises" column for our 2012 flights.

RyanError has been threatening that for some time now. I think it is just for publicity. Does anyone think that the EU would permit that for sanitary reasons? And, if someone without the cost of the toilet excreted on another passenger, I think that passenger would own RyanError. I can hear the lawyers now, "RyanAir knew or should have known ....".

About 8 days ago I saw that if passengers for RyanAir arrived at the gate wearing any colour other than green they would be charged an additional €10.

keri, All the cr@p associated with RyanAir is one reason I try to avoid them unless a absolutely necessary. I much prefer travelling with EasyJet.

Keri I am not sure why people would choose to use Ryanair when there are several other better budget choices. I do think the fact that Ryanair uses airports that are often very far from the cities they are suppose to serve is a false economy for the traveller.. if you have to travel up to 100kms to get to the city after getting off the plane you really aren't saving much then using an airline that uses the closer airports that are better served by public transport( thinking of Paris Beavais as an example)
i also worry about using an airline whose employees are under constant pressure to keep bottom line down,, ever wonder if those cost cutting measures apply to the mechanics and those who maintain the planes, a bit scary.

Here is Ryanair's policy statement. Please point out any mention of a fee for toilets. http://www.ryanair.com/en/terms-and-conditions#regulations-tableoffees Yes, the company is not nice. Yes, it has many fees and you have to pay for many of their services. Yes, their destinations can be misleading. But you can read what you are getting into before pressing the purchase key. Buyer beware.
And yes, it is the biggest of the budget airlines. If you count bums in seats, they are wildly successful, however much people enjoy complaining.

Some of those people complaining are the ones who were dropped off on a different island in the canary group and told it was up to them how to get to their promised destination. There are only 32 airlines in the world with less than a 3-star rating on SKYTRAX. RyanAir is one of them. Other than BMIBaby, it looks like the rest are all from 3rd world countries. EasyJet, Vueling, and Germanwings are all 3-star rated.

FWIW, we've spread our travel bookings around this time -- not as a conscious policy ... just the way it worked out for dates, times, and connections: British Air, EasyJet, Lufthansa, RyanAir, AerLingus, and IcelandAir, plus 2 ferries. We'll report back if we find ourselves crossing our legs on the RA flight. (BTW, we don't mind Beauvais -- it introduced us to the Kyriad chain and got us to Giverny one year.)
