Ryanair Passport name

Greetings,
I am a bit upset with myself. I made travel arrangements on Ryanair for my mother and me. My mother goes by her middle name and I put her middle name as her name on the ticket. Her middle name is spelled out on her passport. Will we be ok, will they let her on the plane if her ticket is Middle name and then Last name???

Example
Passport name Jane Austin Smith
Ticket name: Austin Smith

Or am I completely screwed.....The trip is from Austria to Ireland.

The good news is that I did this right from USA to Europe. I don't know what I was thinking!!!!

Thanks,
Maryalice

From Austria to Ireland you will need to show a passport. A US drivers license won't do you any good. You might check the Ryanair website to see how much it charges to change the name on a ticket. Otherwise you can ask the phone person. No idea how much it will cost to call their reservation number.

So I am replying to my own thread :) According to Ryanair I can change the name on a ticket; however I must do so by calling their reservation line.

1) Should I do this?
2) If I should change the name, anyone have experience calling them, how much I can expect to pay to talk to them; finally, how do I call from the US??

Thanks!

One more thing. Can we use a US drivers license as identification on this airline?

If so we will be ok because she only has her middle name and last name on this form of id.

Greetings

The name must be as it is on the passport. I would call ASAP to get the name changed - it will cost, but it's far better than having issues at the airport and missing your flight.

The previous poster is correct - you will need to have your passport to get on the plane. It's generally checked at the check-in desk and then again at the gate. You'll also need it at Schengen immigrations in Austria.

The only people that can travel without passports in the EU are EU nationals with national identity cards. Americans need a passport to enter or leave any country other than maybe Canada or Mexico.

Hi Maryalice

Firstly you can TRY to phone Ryanair - the best of luck ! They don't have many phone lines and they have a very minimal Reservations department.

As you must be aware Ryanair is famous for it's low prices, but those prices come at a cost. They cut back to the bone on everything and that includes staff answering phones.

Next be very aware that Ryanair are well within the terms of their contract with you if they refuse to help. They may well point out that you clicked on a button that said all details were correct and that you had read the terms and conditions. That is another way they are able to offer such low prices, they don't give an inch - ever.

You may find that in the long run it will cost you less and save you tearing your hair out and wasting time if you just rebook the flight using the correct name.

What you expect as common courtesy with other airlines often comes as an expensive 'extra' with Ryanair.

Thanks for everyone's advice. I booked two flights this way so I think I am going to try and call them. According to their web site I can change a name.....Now I just need to figure out what phone number to call. It does not appear that they have one to call in the US.

If anyone has advice on which number is the best to call from the US I would be most thankful!

I use a Verizon prepaid phone card plus which I purchased for US$20 at Costco for making international phone calls.
After looking at the Ryan Air site the number I came up with is 011.353.12.49.779. (The 011 is the number that gets us out of the US; you would dial without the usual 1 for long distance.)
Don't forget the time change! Hope this helps.

Forget about a drivers license when traveling internationally. That will not be accepted as ID.
You must have a passport.

Just following up, I finally mananged to get through to Ryanair and since I was just adding the first name they only charged me 10 euros per ticket instead of 100 euros! Boy was I happy. Crossing my fingers this will work.

Thanks for everyone's advice and suggestions.
