New aspect to our summer trip. There is a possibility (we will know in another month or so) that our son might attend a summer session in Sevilla. When we end a 7 day RS London tour, we would want to fly from London to Sevilla for a day or two. I see that Ryanair (I cannot believe how low cost these flights are) flies from London to Sevilla. Anyone have any experience with that? And then what about flying from Sevilla back to US? What would be best way to accomplish that? Fly to Madrid, London, or other to catch a non-stop? Thanks.
I'm glad Norm mentioned the weight restrictions. If the total weight of your checked bags exceeds 15kg, you will have to pay a fee of £5.50 for EACH kilo beyond the limit.
My one experience flying Ryanair (London-Cork) went smoothly--and I certainly liked the price. Things have changed a bit since then. There now are more "nickel and dime" fees. You must pay for each checked bag. The fee is £5 if arranged online when booking your ticket and £10 if arranged at the airport.
Here is Ryanair's carry-on policy: "Each passenger (excluding infants) is permitted to carry one piece of cabin baggage on board (free of charge). It should weigh no more than 10kg and not exceed the maximum dimensions of 55cm x 40cm x 20cm."
Like any budget airline, the longer you wait to book your ticket, the higher the price. Be sure to observe check-in deadlines. If you're standing in line but don't have a boarding pass when the deadline arrives, you can be turned away, your ticket will be worthless, and you'll have to buy a new one on a later flight, probably at full fare.
Unless you plan to spend a day or two in Madrid, returning to London makes sense to me.
I flew Ryanair from London Stansted to Santander (northern Spain) this past May and it was fine. The fares are cheap because, as Tim said, they charge for every little thing. Personally, I can live with that -- some people prefer not to. What I did was find a good deal to London, then fly to Spain and back on Ryanair and Easyjet. You might find that a roundtrip on Ryanair is even cheaper than two one-way legs (it worked that way when I booked, but I wasn't flying back from the same city in Spain).
This is one of those Ryanair runs that looks good, as long as you don't mind the nickel and diming mentioned earlier...and don't dare go overweight with your baggage!:) They fly out of London Stansted, and Sevilla only has one airport...so it's not like "Paris Beauvais" or "Brussels-Charleroi" which are nowhere near those respective cities. As for heading home, best if you probably fly back to London and head home from there. Airfare from Madrid can be expensive...even open jaws will probably be more expensive than sticking with a London round trip. Just remember...you may have to spend a night in London before your flight back to the U-S...since Ryanair won't guarantee any connection!
