I'm holding a RyanAir reservation for June, and I got a full-colour, very clear email from them today about the changes. With pictures. I had already purchased priority boarding to avoid any hassle. My friend and I could carry on our bags. She's not quite in tune with the light packing philosophy though, so she'll probably have to check hers and then I might as well too. But the cost is included in priority boarding. I am not opposed to this change especially since it's clear and well-publicized. It should definitely reduce boarding chaos.
Nelly,
You may want to further review what was sent you, Priority Boarding does not get you a checked bag weighing more than 22 lbs.
The policy used to be that you could carry on a roller type bag of the correct size weighing no more than 10 kg (22 lbs) plus a personal item that was very small (not a packed backpack type "day bag")
What has changed is that with general boarding you will check the 10 kg bag at the gate for no fee, they put it in the hold, you pick up as you deplane. With priority boarding, you get to get on first, plus you get to take the 10 kg bag in the cabin rather than gate checking.
For any bags over 10 kg and up to 20 kg, you still need to pay to check them (general boarding or Priority), but a few months ago they did lower the checked bag fee to 25 Pounds or Euros. These are checked before security at the counter, picking up at baggage claim.
So in your case, if you are dead certain your bag complies to the size requirements and is under 10 kg and you have nothing else but maybe a small purse, then no need to check a bag. If like many, you have a roller bag that probably tips over 22 lbs and a larger day bag, then I would check the roller bag for 25 euro, get priority boarding for 5 euro, then be able to take your day bag in the cabin with you.
Yes, I was not accurate before. I purchased Plus, which includes checking a bag up to 20 kg and the extra cabin bag. I won’t have both. But I have the flexibility to check or carryon, as I choose. My carryon is only 20”, but I have do a small day bag as well. It was worth the bit extra to me to be sure I wouldn’t have an issue and I know my travel partner is not a 20” bag type. Thanks
